At the EMO in hall 27, stand D68, Chiron will exhibit eight “new generation” machining centers – including five world premieres – to demonstrate all aspects of efficient, fast and precise machining for numerous applications in different industries and with a wide range of materials. The live machining demonstrations will focus on productivity increases by the use of multi-spindle technology, simultaneous turning and milling, new automation solutions and energy efficient machining centers. Countdown to 6 spindles 14 mm NC machine’s launch
If the EMO is usually the place where companies launch their products, it is quite rare to discover a product that changes the way we see machining. Most of the time there are new machines a little bit more so and so or with enhanced so and so to be discovered. At the next EMO, Tornos will launch a product that will probably be seen as a real new way to machine. The company has launched a microwebsite dedicated to this new machine: [www.multiswiss.info->http://www.multiswiss.info. There is (…)

To sell a first machine is "easy"...
Sales of investment goods is never really simple, neither for new nor for second hand. In both cases, the sale of the second machine is conditioned by the performance of the first. In the case of a new machine, it is the brand that is "colored" by the experience with the first purchase. In the case of second-hand deals, it is the image of the company who made the sale which is affected. Meeting with Mr. Frank Délétraz, Director of RD Machine-Outils (France). To "new machines actors", there (…)

Skive hobbing of small pitch gears
Affolter Technologies SA from Malleray-Switzerland produces Gear Hobbing Machines for small pitch gears. Affolter has developed a new option called „µ-Skiving“, which allows to apply a technique of skive hobbing on smallest gears. Pre-hobbed and hardened gear blanks are positioned and finished using a special hob. The cutting process is called skiving. This process is a finishing operation and provides an alternative to gear grinding in hardened materials for modules of 0.1 to 1.0 mm (DP (…)

New hobbing center Affolter Gear AF110
Affolter Technologies SA presents at this year’s EMO the new model Gear AF110. With a module range of 1.0 mm (DP 25.4) in steel, Affolter enlarges its Gear Line upwards for applications such as gear box producers, aircraft and automobile suppliers industries. The AF110 can cut all kind of different gear types as well as worms. With this machine, Affolter has achieved to double the module range whilst keeping the dynamic and compact construction for which Affolter machines are well known. (…)

World premiere at Chiron’s open house
Around 1000 visitors attended the Chiron’s open house from May 18 – 21, 2011 and witnessed the first live demonstration of the compact and fast DZ08 twin-spindle five axis machining center. Visitors were also able to discover the moving assembly line. Twelve steps take place in the assembly process of the 08, 12, 15 and 18 series machines. Every day two completely assembled machines leave the hall. Under the "assembly-flow" process, the machines are assembled in four parallel lines with (…)

Competences’ widening
The new Recomatic compact finishing center reduces the gap between grinding or milling machining centers and finishing centers and brings more machining possibilities and more flexibility to its users. In expanding the scope of a finishing machine, Recomatic offers the result of nearly three years of work to the market. Meeting with Mr. Rérat, technical director. At the EPHJ show, many people were impressed by the compactness of the machine as well as by its capacities. Equipped with a 12 (…)

Miyano BNA 42S user’s feed-back
For a mechanical and high precision turning sub-contracting workshop, a good machine is a machine which "never" stops. In addition, if the produced parts are good, it is the winning equation. The mechanical workshop of Pierre Brunetti acquired a Miyano BNA 42 S turning centre last September and we wanted to know his opinion on this new machine. A full interview is to be discovered in our next issue. The possibility to mount double or triple tool holders and to index the turret by (…)

Handheld, Machine Mount and Robot Tongs
Production processes for parts and for the mounting of subassemblies can be rationalized by using the comprehensive supply program of TOX®-Mini, Handheld, Machine Mount and Robot Tongs. Pair of TOX®-Tongs with pneumohydraulically operated drive cylinder as used in a mobile or stationary way, for example, in automobile industries all over the world. TOX®-Handheld Tongs The supply program of TOX®-Handheld Tongs offers a total of six different types and further executions and equipment (…)

Synchronous or asynchronous?
Thanks to the simplicity of its design, use and maintenance, its robustness and low cost, the asynchronous process is at present used very widely for motors within a power range from a few hundred watts to thousands of kilowatts. Why opting for synchronous technology? Interview with Dr Markus Thurneysen, Head of Design at Tornos SA. “Synchronous technology has been used for many years on our multi-spindle lathes, but it is true that very few turning machines are equipped with this (…)
