A New Mecca for Europe’s Key Sourcing Professionals

July 2011

Hosted for the first time in Spain, the Medevice Design Manufacturing Exhibition and Biomaterials Europe Conference will take place on 5-6 October 2011 at the Barcelo Sants Hotel, Barcelona. These two new events bring a much needed platform to connect medical device industry suppliers with Europeanwide medical device manufacturers.

“This event is aimed at helping Spanish medical device manufacturers meet other European colleagues in the industry, to create partnerships and develop their business, while participating in the Biomaterials Conference. By participating in the Medevice Exhibition, there is a great opportunity for Spanish companies with processes that could be used for medical device manufacturing to show them to the European medical device industry” explains Angel Lagrana from ASCAMM Technology Center, the local institution coorganising the show with UBM Canon. In his opinion for the Spanish industry, he adds, “this event, held on their doorstep, is an easier route to internalization for companies, without going abroad. It is a costeffective platform to present their capabilities to Europeanwide medical device manufacturers in order to increase the possibility to become subcontractors.”

Very high potential in Spain The background for Medevice Design Manufacturing Exhibition and Biomaterials Europe Conference relies on a very dynamic environment in which cross‐penetration between biotechnology, biomaterials and medical device industries are accelerating new developments. This environment is evident not only on a global level but also on regional levels, in particular in Spain where the sector shows very high potential.

The Biomaterials industry’s significant contribution to the development of medical devices Biomaterials comprise a large category of materials such as metals, ceramics, polymers, glasses, carbons, and composite materials. They can be synthetic or natural, solid or liquid. Biomaterials as a field has seen steady growth over its approximately half century of existence, and uses ideas from medicine, biology, chemistry, materials science and engineering. Biological interaction of materials with their environment is getting more and more relevant in microengineering, sensor technology and power engineering applications, but also in medical engineering.

Medevice Design and Manufacturing Exhibition The event was designed specifically with the idea of creating a direct connection between medical‐ device industry suppliers and European‐wide medical device manufacturers needing to comprehend the latest developments and techniques in applying biomaterials for medical device manufacturing. Over 70 companies will present their products/services alongside a specialised conference.

Call for paper Technical papers, case studies, lessons learned and results will be particularly welcome in the following areas, however, other presentations will be considered:
