To achieve high precision results, microtechology applications need to rely on powerful and reliable gears. This can be found in micromotors, aeronautics, medical devices or watch industry; these applications need gears or micro-gears of high precision and outstanding quality. There are several ways to cut such gears. We met Mr Graf, responsible for sales at Affolter (Malleray, Switzerland) which provides machines dedicated to the achievement of such gears.

Affolter benefits from an extended knowledge due to its privileged position on "both sides". On one hand Affolter Technologies develops and produces gear cutting machines and micromachining centers (we’ll mainly talk about it) and on the other hand, Affolter Pignons which produces pinions and wheels for many very demanding areas. The collaboration between the two units is highly developed; for the machine manufacturer it is the guarantee that the process is constantly improved and supplemented; an important competitive asset!
