Turnkey to help customers getting ahead

February 2010

At the Metav, Chiron will present the new DZ 12K S Magnum five axis double-spindle machining center with a two-axis tilt rotary table for the two-spindle milling and turning of complex workpieces in one set-up.

At the Metav in Düsseldorf, Hall 16, Booth C 48, one can experience what Chiron considers to be efficiency in complete machining. A new double-spindle center will be introduced with 2 x 5 axes, which impresses with its performance with regard to productivity and surface finish. Also, Chiron will show its further-developed FZ 15 W Magnum machining center in mineral cast design, with its integrated workpiece changing system for loading/unloading during machining. The products of this Southern German machine builder are characterized by their productivity and special efficiency. Thanks to Turnkey projects tailored to customer requirements, they make process sequences more reliable and ensure getting "Seconds ahead" once again.

Turnkey projects The initiative for developing the DZ 12K S Magnum five axis came from Chiron customers within the scope of turnkey projects, which demanded a compact solution, standing for top productivity with minimum floor space requirement, and, as an overall system, works reliably and energy-efficiently at top quality. Dr. Dirk Prust, the Managing Director of Sales, Technology and Service of Chiron-Werke GmbH & Co KG, Tuttlingen: "The trend toward more complex series workpieces is clearly continuing and is therefore increasingly heading toward 5-axis machining. With 5-axis machining, higher precision is achievable, since reclamping isn’t necessary, for example. To meet the productivity demands of such series workpieces, we have implemented these requirements in a cost-effective double-spindle machining center.

Increased productivity and reduce energy consumtion After all, compared to the even more productive workpiece changing table variant from Chiron, the investment for this new development is reduced thanks to fewer axes and clamping devices. Also, the new machine convinces with the proven advantages of Chiron double-spindle centers, namely the lower floor space and personnel requirements, reduction of the cost per part by reducing the total machining time, and, compared to the single-spindle solution, double the productivity while saving up to 30% in energy costs at the same time.

Energy savings An energy efficiency package, with some standard and some optional solutions, provides energy savings/increased efficiency of the used Chiron machining centres. Available components include:

Energy efficiency is a major topic at Chiron. Average energy consumption during non-productive times of 80% shows one thing: the highest savings potential can be found in the set-up times. Since the faster we produce, the higher the energy savings are. As a member of the VDW initiative "Blue Competence", Chiron will present a corresponding turnkey solution based on an effectiveness comparison at the joint booth (Hall 16, Booth B9).
