R-MAG, the new Roemheld magnetic clamping system, is receiving positive feedback in the plastics processing industry and in sheet metal forming.

The innovation scores points over competing products thanks to its low plate thickness, integrated clamping force indicator and replaceable magnetic poles. Both functions were expressly requested by users and are rarely found on the market to date.

The electro-permanent magnetic clamping systems of the R-MAG series clamp dies of various sizes and geometries fully automatically and distortion-free in seconds. Their homogeneous magnetic clamping surface ensures even distribution of the clamping forces, which hold the die securely even in the event of a power failure. There is no need to standardise the dies.

The modern 8-inch colour display with touch function and an integrated remote maintenance module via VPN or external WiFi router round off the system.

Greater process reliability
The new integrated clamping force display can be switched on as an option, providing additional process reliability. At the same time, various sensors such as temperature sensors, position switches and flux measurement sensors continuously monitor the system during operation. These control functions and high holding forces guarantee secure die clamping.

Easy maintenance, minimised downtime, low space requirements
The replaceable magnetic poles are also unique to date, enabling simplified maintenance and reducing downtime to a minimum. Defective poles can be replaced on site without having to take the entire system out of operation.

Quick die clamping technology for all plastics processing
The magnetic clamping systems of the R-MAG series are used for the automatic clamping of various dies on injection moulding machines and forming presses for sheet metal forming. As standard, they are designed for plate thicknesses of 55 millimetres and working temperatures of up to 150º Celsius. A plate thickness of only 38 mm is also available for small machines.

High clamping forces
"Our R-MAG technology is very popular with users in the plastics processing industry," reports Benedikt Niklas, Area Manager at Roemheld . This is also demonstrated by a new contract manufacturing project. The company uses an R-MAG system with a plate size of 800 x 700 millimetres on a 160-tonne injection moulding machine from Battenfeld. The magnetic holding force is designed to work optimally on dies regardless of their size and geometry. "The new customer reduces changeover times and stabilises the process without having to standardise their dies," explains Niklas. "Like many other processors, they wanted precisely this combination of low plate thickness, high clamping force, transparency and ease of maintenance. The clamping force display is also a welcome feature, especially for vertical applications."

Complete solutions for die handling
In addition to magnetic, hydraulic, electromechanical and purely mechanical clamping systems, Roemheld now also offers a comprehensive range of components for integrated die handling solutions. These range from storage systems and die changing carts for loads between 500 kg and 40 t to transport bars and die changing consoles to comprehensive automation solutions.
