The medical trade show dedicated to microtechnology took place for the third time in Moutier from May 3 to 6. About 200 exhibitors were there to show their skills to the 4’000 visitors that came to Moutier.

Due to its precise positioning and willingness to reach people involved in production for the medical, the event didn’t display companies doing end products. The show was clearly
industrial and medical
. A woman I met in the alleys told me that she regretted the fact that there were no longer purely medical products… but her husband coming for the technical things told me exactly the contrary, very happy to visit a focused event. This example illustrates well the difficulty for a show to be both professional at the level of microtechnology and end users… it is actually completely different (target, aim, visitors).
Good results thanks to good focus The organizers were satisfied today, the qualitative interviews they had during the days with exhibitors showed that if the number of visitors was quite limited, the number of qualified leads and good contacts were very high. A few exhibitors told me that they were completely busy from 9 to 5 on Thursday and Friday (a little bit less the days before). The fact that the show is small allows people to come back on a booth that was busy quite easily.
Could do better Some exhibitors were less enthusiastic because they didn’t have a lot of visitors and they suggested some ideas to increase the number of these. Francis Koller, president told us that next issue of mediSIAMS is planned for 2013 (in 2012 the Siams will take place) and that the organizers will involve exhibitors (both happy and less happy ones) in workgroups to further increase the quality of the event.
Production and medical The repositioning of the show is not an easy one, but this first issue was clearly positive. We at Eurotec had a lot of interesting meetings with companies active also in medical. A visitor told me today that he didn’t understand why a barloader would be shown there… but if you’re willing to produce in the medical, don’t you need such a device?
I’ll keep you posted on the evolutions of mediSIAMS…
Cheers and happy weekend
