Ecoline – The start of a new era on entry-level

October 2011

The turning and milling machines of the new Ecoline by DMG / MORI SEIKI were presented at EMO in a new design as the ideal service packages for even more productivity and ergonomics at an unbeatable price. The new functional design is quite an eye-catcher, which is however much more than just visually appealing.

The perfect combination of functionality, efficiency and user comfort make the two new universal lathes in the CTX Ecoline family a convincing option. The highly dynamic turret equipped with a servo-synchronous-motor impresses with a 100% reduced tool change time (a tool change of two 60° tool stations, for example, in just 0.4 seconds) and hydraulic interlocking that ensures top dynamics and stability.

So for example, for the first time in machine tool engineering a so-called PROGRESSline has been integrated into the machine housing that is easy to read, whose display allows the operator to see the remaining running time of the workpiece and the quantities of the machining job, while a green illuminated LIGHTline in the shape of a corporate identity bracket additionally emphasises the brand character of the new generation. Furthermore, the new machine interface underlines the innovative character of the new generation. Larger safety panes additionally ensure a clear view of the operations in the work area, which is even perfectly illuminated with future-oriented PLANONlight in energy-saving LED technology.

High-end control for everyone An absolute first on the entry-level is furthermore usage of the high-end control Siemens 840D solutionline. This provides unrivalled performance concerning the computing power of the CNC as well as an integrated Operate user interface. Combined with the ergonomic SLIMline® panel, its scratch-free surface and the swivel-mounted control panel, a maximum of focus on the user with regard to handling as well as programming has been achieved. The Ecoline program furthermore provides the option to adapt either high-tech controls of Heidenhain including the SLIMline® panel (CNC Pilot 620) or the MAPPS IV of the cooperation partner MORI SEIKI.

Turning, vertical milling or 5 side machining with Ecoline effect In turning the CTX Ecoline machines represent structurally the well known top standard of German engineering tradition. An example for this are the usage of high-tech digital drives and the highly stable linear roller guideways in all axes for optimum speed and dynamics as well as for highly precise machining results even for more complex tasks. The automatically adjustable tailstock is not standard for the entry-level either, which has increased the degree of universality and productivity.

Standards in vertical milling, the DMC 635 V Ecoline and DMC 1035 V Ecoline of the new generation present themselves with added productivity, which features in the complete new generation like an Ecoline effect. Prominent features in comparison with predecessor models are the fast rapid traverse and feed speeds of up to 30 m/min for short downtimes as well as the option for faster speeds of up to 12,000 min-1 for a wider spectrum of materials and a larger tool magazine with 30 spaces, which also due to the fast double gripper allows for change times of only 1.6 seconds and improves the use of both innovations in everyday production.

5 side machining; the standard CNC is as before the Sinumerik 840D solutionline with Operate user interface – notably for the new universal milling machine DMU 50 Ecoline. Due to the envisaged range of components with degrees of difficulty from the simplest 3-axis milling up to 5-side machining of complex workpieces the CNC can play out its strength to the full. This specifically applies to workshop oriented programming with 3D simulation.

Indeed DMG presented a lot of news at EMO, we will come back on some highlights later.
