The most significant technological advance in the field of cutting tools since the development of cobalt tungsten carbide is the coated tool. The coatings form diffusion barriers which prevent the interaction between the shavings formed during machining and the cutting material. Among the typical coatings we can mention titanium carbide (TiC), titanium nitride (TiN), chromium nitride (CrN), titanium-aluminium nitride (TiAlN), zirconium nitride (ZrN) and the diamond which are extremely hard and thus abrasion resistant.

The cleanliness of the substrate surface is an essential factor of adherence. The surface must be cleansed of any organic and inorganic impurities: the VacuKleen range. Cobalt has a -0.74 V reduction potential and easily oxidizes in aqueous phase. That would cause its dissolution and would pollute the environment. It would also cause the formation of microcavities on the surface of the substrate: the deposited layer would be thin and thus fragile and would present adherence defects.
The R&D Department of NGL CLEANING TECHNOLOGY conducted a thorough study in order to develop surface-preparation methods for cobalt-cemented tungsten carbide cutting tools. The purpose of these processes is to protect the cobalt during the degreasing operation and to reinforce the adherence of the coating layer.
NGL products and processes are the fruit of research and experiments conducted in the principal high-technology industrial divisions. This know-how extends to the environment when advising industrialists on the choice of method for managing their waste water. NGL Cleaning Technology complies with ISO 9001 - ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards in formulating, manufacturing and marketing a broad range of ecological goods to meet extremely demanding cleaning requirements in areas such as dental implants, surgical prostheses, the delicate mechanisms of the watch industry and many other sectors in which, until recent years, cleaning was carried out only with solvents.
