We published recently a post about Willemin-Macodel first new product at EMO. This one is about the second novelty. The other world premiere presented by the Swiss company goes far beyond usual machining possibilities involving milling and turning. The 408MT is actually the first compact 5-axes bar machining center equipped with an 8-position turning turret.
Thanks to this technological feature, the 408MT can machine simultaneously on the main spindle. It can, for example, perform drilling at the same time as turning or milling around the external diameter.
High capabilities The turning turret guarantees the removal of large volume of chips generated during turning and frontal drilling. Simultaneous machining and increased chips removal guarantee a significant reduction of cycle time.
Bar Machining Process… The bars can be fed into the A axis divider using a bar feeder or bar supply system. The various types of equipment that can be fitted on the 408MT machining centre provide considerable flexibility for loading short or long bars up to 32 mm in diameter. The bar is then clamped in the A axis divider to machine the front using simultaneous 5-axis machining if necessary. Axis A can reach a maximum speed of 6,000 rpm to carry out turning operations while using the same clamping sequence.
…with back Work For easier machining on the back of the part, the back work device swivels through 90° to a vertical position and moves in towards the part to hold it in place. The motorized spindle on the B axis can then move to a 90° position to carry out the cutting operation. Once the part has been separated from the bar, the back work device again swivels through 90° to a horizontal position, thus enabling machining of the 6th side.
Many advanced features to really answer customer’s needs A 24-position tool magazine with a fast twin-arm tool changer is fitted as standard on the 408MT machining centre. Various handling systems can be supplied to remove machined parts. To enhance machine autonomy, Willemin-Macodel can supply an universal handling arm that can be used to load parts and move them to or from a storage area, and also to remove bar offcuts.
